This Privacy Policy explains how the practice of Maria Slutski, Registered Psychotherapist (CRPO Registration No. 007463), operating in Toronto, Ontario ("the Practice", "we", "us", or "our"), collects, uses, discloses, and safeguards personal information in connection with this website and related inquiries.
As a Registered Psychotherapist, Maria Slutski is a health information custodian under Ontario's Personal Health Information Protection Act, 2004 (PHIPA). Personal information that is not health information is handled in a manner consistent with the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) where applicable.
1. Scope of this Policy
This Policy applies to personal information collected through this website and through general inquiries (for example, by email or messaging). Personal health information collected in the course of clinical, assessment, or med-legal services is governed by PHIPA and by the specific consent and privacy practices provided to clients as part of those services. This Policy supplements, and does not replace, those clinical privacy practices.
2. Information we collect
We collect personal information only when you choose to provide it, or as needed to deliver a service you request. This may include:
- Contact and inquiry information — such as your name, email address, telephone number, and the contents of your message;
- Scheduling information — provided when you book an appointment through our scheduling provider;
- Service-related information — including personal health information collected during professional services, which is handled under PHIPA.
This website does not require you to create an account and does not collect personal information automatically beyond what is technically necessary to deliver the page.
3. How we use your information
- to respond to your inquiries and arrange consultations;
- to provide, administer, and document professional services you request;
- to meet our legal, regulatory, and professional obligations, including those of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).
4. Consent
We collect, use, and disclose personal information with your consent, which may be express or implied depending on the circumstances and the sensitivity of the information, except where collection, use, or disclosure without consent is permitted or required by law. You may withdraw your consent at any time, subject to legal and professional limitations; withdrawing consent may affect our ability to provide certain services.
5. Service providers and third parties
We rely on trusted third-party services, each governed by its own privacy practices:
- Scheduling is provided by Jane (Jane App). Information you enter to book is processed by Jane under its own privacy policy.
- Messaging through Telegram is subject to Telegram's privacy policy.
- Email inquiries are processed through our email service provider.
- Web fonts are delivered by Google Fonts, which may receive your browser's request data in order to serve the font files.
Some service providers may store or process information on servers located outside Ontario or Canada. Where that is the case, the information may be subject to the laws of those jurisdictions.
6. Cookies and analytics
This website does not set advertising or tracking cookies and does not use third-party analytics to build profiles of visitors.
7. Disclosure of personal information
We do not sell or rent personal information. We disclose personal information only:
- with your consent;
- to service providers acting on our behalf under appropriate confidentiality obligations; or
- where required or permitted by law — including, in the case of personal health information, the limited circumstances set out in PHIPA (such as a significant risk of serious harm, mandatory reporting requirements, or a legal proceeding).
8. Retention
We retain personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this Policy or as required by professional and legal obligations. Clinical records are retained in accordance with CRPO record-keeping requirements. When no longer required, information is securely destroyed.
9. Safeguards
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information. Please be aware that no method of transmission over the Internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Access and correction
You have the right to request access to, and correction of, the personal information we hold about you. For personal health information, access and correction are handled in accordance with PHIPA.
